On 16 April 2013, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) hosted a London Experience Day entitled "Improving Care of Children" in connection with the International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare. A Workshop on Paediatric Safety is set to take place April 15th, just ahead of the IHI - BMJ International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare in April. [...]
We had 70 people at our symposium: ' Aiming for zero harm in paediatrics'. Peter started with a welcome and promotion of PIPSQC. Approximately half the audience were MDs and the rest nurses and other healthcare professionals. Half the crowd were from stand alone paediatric hospitals, and half from general hospitals. Peter's talk focused on uniqueness of patient safety vulnerabilities in children and why we have an obligation to protect children in the healthcare system. The topic of the need for 24/7 coverage by consultant paediatricians resonated with many who are trying to make this case. Does it make sense that the best trained physicians go home when the sickest patients come in? [...]
