Launch of the PIPSQC Blog

PIPSQC is pleased to announce the official launch of the PIPSQC Blog.

In his introductory note, "Welcome to the PIPSQC Blog," PIPSQC Chair, Dr. Peter Lachman, shares his vision for the new initiative: "This is the first step in our next phase on the development of the international movement for paediatric patient safety." Dr. Lachman highlights what he has learned by visiting PIPSQC centers across the globe, and underscores that "It is our duty to share best practice and [that] the blog posts are intended to serve that purpose.” [...]

We had 70 people at our symposium: ' Aiming for zero harm in paediatrics'.  Peter started with a welcome and promotion of PIPSQC. Approximately half the audience were MDs and the rest nurses and other healthcare professionals. Half the crowd were from stand alone paediatric hospitals, and half from general hospitals. Peter's talk focused on uniqueness of patient safety vulnerabilities in children and why we have an obligation to protect children in the healthcare system. The topic of the need for 24/7 coverage by consultant paediatricians resonated with many who are trying to make this case. Does it make sense that the best trained physicians go home when the sickest patients come in? [...]

The launch of the PIPSQC website at the IHI National Forum in Orlando on Dec 6 was a great success. Forty people attended the PIPSQC minicourse which ended with a walk through our site.
